Travel Trivia Tuesday: What is the only inhabited place on earth that isn’t plagued by mosquitos?

✈️---------------

Good morning and welcome back to Daily Drop, the best morning routine that takes less than five minutes.

Except maybe making your morning coffee. Because let’s be honest - that’s way more important.

Today is packed with plenty of travel hacking goodies, so let’s jump in:

  • 💳 Bilt Rent Day (shopping, bonuses, and trivia)

  • ✈️ United makes some updates for traveling families

  • 🙋‍♀️ Travel Trivia Tuesday

💳 Bilt Rent Day (March 1st)

Tomorrow kicks off another month, and I think we all know what that means…

Just kidding. I’m talking about the next Bilt Rent Day promotion, of course.

March’s Rent Day is a little bit different from previous ones, and some of you may be disappointed. But fear not, there are great travel hacks to be had.

The main perk this month is higher redemption rates when using Bilt points to shop on Amazon.

Normally, you can redeem Bilt points at a rate of 0.7 cents each on Amazon. On March 1st, you’ll get a 50% bonus for a total redemption value of 1.05 cents each.

This definitely isn’t the most optimal use of Bilt points, given that you can transfer them to tons of airline and hotel partners, but there’s nothing wrong with using your points for online shopping if you have no better use for them.

The other fun aspect to Rent Day this month is Bilt’s trivia questions, which can be answered right in the Bilt app and earn you a few hundred points.

After the last few months of Bilt Rent Day promos, this is definitely underwhelming… But hey, they can’t spoil us EVERY month, right?

The good news is that the highlight of Rent Day, which is part of the promotion every month, more than makes up for it.

The highlight, of course, is the ability to earn double points on all purchases on the first day of the month for those who have the Bilt Mastercard.

Here are the normal earning rates for the Bilt card:

  • 3 points per dollar on dining

  • 2 points per dollar on travel

  • 1 point per dollar on everything else

On the first of every month, however, this is what you’ll earn:

  • 6 points per dollar on dining

  • 4 points per dollar on travel

  • 2 points per dollar on everything else (except for rent, which is still one point per dollar)

Even though it’s only for a single day out of the month, those are still incredibly high earning rates. It also allows you to be strategic about making certain purchases since you know exactly when these elevated earning rates will happen.

If you don’t have the Bilt Card, it’s one of the best cards out there. Not only can you earn points for paying your rent, but you also get to participate in these monthly promos, which have included things like 100% transfer bonuses to airlines, free airline elite status, and more.

If that sounds good to you, sign up now so you can be ready to hop on April’s Rent Day when it comes.

✈️ United makes some updates for traveling families

Woah… are we talking about family travel? in Daily Drop?? That’s a first, huh?

I’ll be honest, I don’t have a lot to offer when it comes to family travel. Thankfully, I know some experienced family travelers and am trying to beef up my knowledge.

In the meantime, here’s a nice piece of news from United Airlines, which recently implemented a new feature that helps families sit together on flights.

Here are the details:

When you book a United flight for yourself and children under 12 years old, United will automatically seat you in adjacent seats, even when you book Basic Economy.

If no adjacent seats are free, United’s system will offer complimentary upgrades to preferred seats.

Finally, if no adjacent normal or preferred seats are available, you can change your flight, free of charge, to the next flight on the same route. You won’t even have to pay a fare difference, which is quite generous.

Overall, this is pretty awesome. Since this announcement from United, other airlines have already followed suit and implemented similar features.

In an interview, United CEO Scott Kirby said,

“The new policy will take a lot of the stress out of the up-front process. So you book your ticket, you know you have a seat, instead of having to wait to get to the airport and cross your fingers and hope that you could get a seat next to your child”

Nobody wants to have to deal with the hassle of asking people to move seats so they can sit with their families.

The fact that United has automated this new feature is great and is sure to convert some Delta and American loyalists who want to eliminate one of the many headaches of planning travel with families.

You can read more about United’s tips and policies for traveling with children on their website.

🙋‍♀️ Travel Trivia Tuesday

Today’s trivia question was, “what is the only inhabited place on earth that isn’t plagued by mosquitos?”

When you think of a place that doesn’t have any mosquitos, you probably imagine a place with pearly white gates.

But in reality, there is a place right here on Earth that fits the description.

The place is Iceland.

Unlike some parts of our planet, Iceland is actually fairly mild and has all the conditions that mosquitos typically thrive in. In fact, it’s a bit of a mystery as to why they’ve avoided Iceland…

Anyway, you can read more about it here if you’re interested.

That’s gonna do it for today, friends! Anyone want to move to Iceland with me and avoid mosquitos forever?

On the topic of Bilt, I’d like to know: Have you participated in any of Bilt’s Rent Day promotions so far? Which one has been your favorite? Let me know by replying to this email or reaching out on social media.

See you tomorrow,
