Good morning and welcome back to The Daily Drop, the 5-minute travel newsletter.
What can you do in five minutes? Hmm…let’s see.
You could vacuum. You could do approximately 30 burpees (maybe). You could do one chore like scrub the toilet, wash a window, or even clean the inside of your microwave (because let’s be honest…you haven’t done that in years).
Are you bored yet? I thought so. Go ahead and read the Daily Drop. Save yourself from a boring five minutes.
Here's what we've got today:
- 🛳️ Cruise news: Solo traveler edition
- ✈️ United offers flat discount codes (today only)
- 🏨 Choice Hotels double points promo

🛳️ Cruise News: Solo traveler edition

One of the most significant downsides to cruises is that the big savings usually come when you add more guests or rooms.
So if you travel solo like I do, it's hard to find a good deal that won't break the bank.
Thankfully, Aurora Expeditions has come out with a deal specifically catered toward solo travelers in one of the coolest destinations in the world.

|
|
|
Here's how this works:
Normally when booking a cruise as a solo traveler, you'll have to pay a "solo supplement" of 50%, which makes adventures like this pretty cost prohibitive.
With this sale, that solo supplement will be waived entirely.
One thing to keep in mind is that this only applies to select Antarctic cruises in 2023, so you'll want to read the full terms and conditions to make sure this applies to any options you might be considering.
I know a lot of you are probably badasses who don't actually read the terms and conditions, but please make an exception just this once...

Here are the key terms of the offer, which lists which cruises are applicable and which cabins are not applicable:

So if you solo travelers are looking for a great adventure for 2023, this might be the perfect fit.

✈️ United offers flat discount codes (today only)

Travel hacking is fun most of the time. Personally, I love playing the game of maximizing points, finding the nitty gritty hacks, and the exhilaration of crunching those cold, hard numbers.
But I'm not normal. Most people prefer something simple. Like a straightforward, easy-to-use discount code to make a flight a little cheaper.
And that's exactly what United is offering; but only for today.

That's right, kids. If you use the discount code VACAYABROAD before the end of the day today, you can receive a $75 discount on economy flights and a $250 on business-class flights, but only on certain flights.
Specifically, the sale covers flights to Europe, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Amman, and Dubai. It's definitely a strange combo, but it looks like they're trying to fill up some seats on their new routes while throwing in Europe during the off-season.
Overall, this is a great option for anyone who has been planning a trip to these destinations (I assume most of you will probably fit into the Europe category here).
The economy discount is probably the most useful since $250 won't really make a dent in long-haul business class flights, but if you're a baller who wants to access your frugal side, this is great for you too.
Again, this is only valid until the end of the day today. The discount code must be entered in the search area BEFORE searching for flights rather than at checkout.
Happy deal hunting!

🏨 Choice Hotels double points promo
|
|
|
It's always nice to see hotels duking it out Rocky Balboa style to offer us the best deals.

2023 is already off to a pretty solid start, with pretty much every major hotel chain offering a meaningful promotion.
That includes Choice Hotels, which recently launched a Double Points promo that you might want to look into.
|
|
|
|
Here are the deets:
- The offer is valid for stays between January 17th and March 6th, 2023
- Earn double base points (20 points per dollar total)
- Only valid for stays that cost at least $40 per night
- You must register for the offer before completing your stays
- Not valid for stays in Scandinavia, which are under a different hotel umbrella
I love these simple but valuable promotions. Earning double points on all stays is pretty great and doesn't require much effort to take advantage of.
Given the large global footprint of Choice Hotels and the variety of brands for different budget types, this could be a great way to both save money AND rack up extra points for more free stays down the road.
I did a quick search for a random city (Rome) and immediately found five solid options for well under $100 each, which is definitely appealing to me.

There's not much more to say about this. So I won't. Except this:
If you're looking to book some cheap stays and can't find good options with the other big brands, check out choice hotels and cash in on those sweet, sweet double points.

That's gonna do it for today, y'all.
