🇳🇴 Did you know that in Norway, saying “Tvi Tvi” brings good luck to your friends? And that whistling toward the sun brings bad luck? Me neither. Read more here.
Good morning and welcome back to Daily Drop, the sassy travel genie of newsletters. We're here to grant your wish of jet-setting around the world like a travel-hacking pro, no lamp-rubbing required.
And before you ask… NO, you can’t wish for more wishes…
Here’s how we’re finishing out the week:
⚾️ Redeem miles for sports things (at great value, too)
🇨🇦Canada is wooing remote workers with this new visa
🥂 First Class Friday: Private terminals could come to an airport near you
⚾️ Redeem miles for sports things (at a great value, too)
If you’re like me, you hate using points and miles on travel.
You also probably love kicking back at the baseball game, trying your darnedest to follow that puck on the court, just waiting for that moment when the quarterback finally throws the winning basket.
As you can see, I’m VERY good at sports stuff…
And now you can be, too. That’s because there’s a fun little hack that lets you use miles from this bank to book baseball tickets… at a GREAT value.
Here’s the deal:
Use miles from this bank to book up to four tickets to MLB games for just 5,000 miles each
The number of tickets at this rate for a given game is limited
You must buy tickets in batches of two (either two or four tickets per game)
Only games through September are currently available to book this way
Now we “sports folk” know that it’s not hard to find pretty cheap baseball tickets these days. I’m talking $30 or $40.
So why should you use precious miles from a card like this one to book these tickets?
Well, these are no ordinary seats. Most of the seats are dugout seats (which I hear is a good thing) that sometimes cost hundreds of dollars.
So spending 5,000 miles on something like this is actually a GREAT value.
If you’re already bored and just want to get those tickets ASAP, here’s how you do it:
Log into this website (assuming you have an account with this bank)
Find the Cardholder Exclusives section (see screenshot below)
Click on “MLB Single Game Tickets”
Search away!
Keep in mind that there are only a few seats per game available at the 5,000-point rate. So if you see seats for higher point prices, it means the good ones are gone, and you’re better off either paying cash or finding a different game to attend.
I don’t know if you could tell, but I actually don’t know sports all so well…
Still, I think this is really cool, and yet ANOTHER great example of why this card is so powerful and remains our number-one pick month to month.
Happy sports-ing, friends!
🇨🇦 Canada is wooing remote workers with this new visa
If you have a deep love for maple syrup, ice hockey, and the occasional aggressive moose… you’re gonna love this 😏
Canada is trying to woo all of us remote workers to come and live in their friendly, frozen tundra of a country with a new digital nomad visa program.
The announcement comes while the program’s details are still being fleshed out, but the government hopes to launch this (and release applications) by the end of 2023.
Here’s what we do know:
If you work for a non-Canadian employer, the visa will allow you to live in Canada for up to six months.
Canada would love it if you’re in the tech industry, but remote workers of all kinds can apply.
There is no salary threshold/requirement.
If you end up landing a job with a Canadian employer, you’ll be able to apply for a temporary work visa and stay for an additional three years (which could lead to the possibility of applying for citizenship).
You’ll need to sit for a national poutine exam.
Okay, I’m joking about the last bullet point.
This is actually a cool thing that Canada is going to implement, and they’re joining a handful of other countries (Estonia, Italy, Norway, Portugal, etc.) that offer a similar visa.
Keep your eye on their government page for updates if you’re considering applying!
🥂 First Class Friday: Private terminals could come to an airport near you
Just in case you weren’t aware, LAX has been the sole home airport for the exclusive “private terminal” concept, named PS (short for private suites), since its origin in 2017.
I know, I know… you’re already thinking the idea of having a completely separate terminal filled to the brim with luxury perks for the VIPs and elites is very “on-brand” with LA.
That’s totally true, but this program is actually available to anyone willing to pay more to avoid the general public (and general airport chaos) during their travel day.
And in an effort to become even more accessible, for the first time in five years, PS is expanding its private terminals to Atlanta and Dallas-Forth Worth airports in 2024. Miami will also follow in 2025, and they have plans to keep expanding to New York, Washington D.C., and even San Francisco after that.
So how does this whole exclusive terminal thing work?
There are varying levels of services and memberships that include private TSA screenings, upscale food and beverage, private suites, and other luxury amenities like spa treatments and chauffeur services 👇
Their three tiers of membership include:
Salon: Reminiscent of a private club where you share a luxury space and amenities with others on this tier.
Private Suite: A separate space reserved exclusively for you with additional perks of a day bed, a private chef, and the chauffeur transport to your plane (perfect for stress-free travel with pets, PS specifically notes…).
PS Direct: About as close as it gets to flying private with the inclusion of a direct transport service from the plane to your final destination (within a certain number of miles).
CAN YOU IMAGINE if I rolled up to this private terminal… with my CAT (probably wearing a Gucci collar)… because I wanted a smoother and less-stressful flying experience with this very expensive cat? 😅
If PS would let me show up 12 hours before my flight to take advantage of multiple meals, spa treatments, and a day bed… then maybe, just maybe (but still probably not).
Costs to enter the private terminal start at $695 for members and $995 for nonmembers. Annual memberships start at $1,250 (which gets you the “discounted” member prices).
It always fascinates me to learn about these programs and services, and though this type of luxury isn’t personally why I travel, it might be a fun thing to splurge on once in your life if you just really wanted the experience 🤗

That’s all for this week, friends. Next time you hear from me, I’ll be in Paraguay, a country you’ve probably never even thought about but is one of the most interesting places in the world.
What’s a really interesting place you’ve been to? Would you use your hard-earned miles on baseball tickets? What about paying for a private terminal? Let me know by replying to this email or reaching out on social media.
