Woah… family travel in Daily Drop?? No, it’s not a mirage.

We’ve had a lot of feedback from readers about not talking enough about family travel. I’m the only one in my family who’s ever been on a plane or left the country, and I only traveled for the first time after graduating from college.

All of this is to say that I simply don’t have the slightest bit of experience traveling with a family, and it’s a bit outside my wheelhouse.

BUT… I’ve been reading up on some great topics to help out anyone who travels with a family or just wants to travel with a large group of friends, and I’ll start to incorporate them into our fine newsletter more often.

Today, we’re going to talk about family rates at hotels. Specifically, Hyatt’s family rate. And this applies to anyone in the world, not just Americans. It’s a great little hack, and I hope it helps some of you.

Here’s the TLDR of the situation…

If you’re traveling with a family, Hyatt will offer a special rate when booking more than one room. Generally, this will be a 50% discount on the second room.

So if you were to book a room for $200 per night, the second room would only cost an additional $100 per night.

As you might imagine, there are some caveats:

• This is NOT available at every Hyatt hotel, sadly.

• You can only book this rate by calling Hyatt customer service

• The second room will cost 50% of the “standard rate,” rather than special rates, promotions, or other discounted rates that might be available.

• You won’t earn double Elite Nights because you book two rooms, but you will earn points on up to three rooms.

• Elite benefits will only apply to one room.

To clarify one of the points above, Hyatt does have a page about their family travel (which you can find here), but it does not include a definitive list of participating hotels, which is why I’d recommend just calling in.

Overall, it’s still an amazing deal. Even if you think you can fit five people into one room, many hotels will not allow it and charge you for two rooms when they see you roll up with a large group at check-in.

Here’s why I think this is so exciting, though.

Hyatt is growing EVERYWHERE in the world. So whether you live in New York City or Branson, Missouri or Dortmund, Germany or Taipei, you can save some serious money from this tactic since it isn’t dependent on points at all.

For example, Hyatt just recently acquired Lindner Hotels in Europe. So if you live in Europe and want to go spend a weekend in Vienna with your family, you could book this hotel for just $111 for the first room and $55 for the second room.

But here’s where things get EXTRA saucy…

If a hotel allows you to book the family rate, they’ll also allow you to use points for the second room and still get the 50% cash discount on the second room.

If we use the same example that I just showed you, this means that you could book one room for just 3,500 Hyatt points and a second room for $55 cash.

Now THAT is some of the best value I’ve ever seen out of a multi-room hotel stay.

Overall, this is an amazing way to save money on multiple hotel rooms and even combine points with cash to travel hack with a family. Although I’ve never done this myself, I hope that some of you are able to take advantage of this awesome deal with Hyatt.

✈️ Flying Blue Promo Rewards (July 2023)

As you know, KLM/Air France Promo Rewards are deals that are published every month by KLM and Air France that offer huge discounts on specific routes with these airlines.

This month is full of some of the same classic deals we love, along with some unique ones, especially for you Canadians.

Here is how these promo rewards work:

• You must book your flights by the end of the month (July 31st)

• Travel can take place through December 31st, 2023

• You must book your trips via either KLM or Air France, depending on the city (see the screenshot above)

• Discount will automatically be applied to search results

As always, these are some incredible deals. If you can get yourself to somewhere like Boston or Chicago with a positioning flight, it could be an amazing way to travel to Europe on the cheap.

Remember that right now, this bank is offering a 20% transfer bonus to Flying Blue, meaning these awards that cost 11,250 miles will only cost you 9,375 points with the bonus.

That’s among the best deals we’ve ever seen for traveling to Europe.

What’s interesting about this month’s awards is that they include great deals in business class to some more obscure Canadian cities.

For example, you can fly from Quebec City or Ottawa to Europe for just 52,000 miles in business class, which is a great deal in my book.

If you Canadians are worried about how to rack up Flying Blue miles, you can transfer points from various Canadian credit cards, making them fairly accessible.

Obviously, y’all Americans have it VERY easy, since pretty much every bank allows you to transfer points to Flying Blue. Our list of Top Credit Cards includes plenty of options that allow you to do so.

Overall, we come to expect a lot from Flying Blue every month, and somehow, they always manage to deliver. So if you have any aspirations of traveling to Europe before the end of the year, this is far and away the best way to do it.
