✈️ A new Middle Eastern airline is making moves in the U.S.
|
|
|
I've been doing some detective work recently. And not the fun, exciting kind of detective work like you see in the movies.
I'm talking about boring, nerdy aviation sleuthing.
You see, a certain airline recently filed for a foreign air carrier permit with the U.S. Department of Transportation. That got me thinking, "why on earth would an airline file for a permit to fly to the U.S.?"
But then it hit me. What if this airline filed for a permit to fly to the U.S. because they want to fly to the U.S.?
Suddenly, all the pieces came together. Upon further research, this same airline recently had a job posting for a New York City-based airport manager, leading me to conclude that they might be considering flights to New York specifically.
So now that I have ample proof, I'm comfortable revealing that the airline in question here is Gulf Air, the Bahrain-based Middle Eastern airline.
If you haven't heard of Gulf Air, it's probably because the bigger players like Qatar Airways, Etihad, and Emirates usually drown them out.
Unlike the other carriers, Gulf Air doesn't have many long-haul routes and no destinations in North America yet.
But make no mistake, Gulf Air is not to be underestimated. In fact, they're one of my favorite airlines in the world, and I'll tell you why you should be excited about this news.

Gulf Air may not be as famous as those big A-list airlines, but they are equal, if not better, in quality. Let me put it this way: If Gulf Air were an actor, it would be Casey Affleck.
The guy is one of the greatest actors of our time, and yet we never hear about him in the news because he focuses more on delivering an excellent product and less on being in the spotlight.
I mean, have you seen Manchester By the Sea?? It's incredible.
But I digress.
Gulf Air has one of the best products in the sky, in my opinion. Their long-haul flights feature private Apex Suite business class cabins, while even their smaller regional planes have lie-flat beds.
Additionally, the Bahrain airport is one of my favorites in the world. It's massive, modern, and has multiple lounge options, but it is never overcrowded.
It's also super easy to get to and from and is just a pleasant experience. I actually prefer it to some of the other more bustling Middle Eastern air hubs.
But here's my favorite part about Gulf Air:

As we've discussed, Aeroplan is one of the best airline programs in the world and has dozens of airline partners.
Since you can transfer points to Aeroplan from just about any major bank, tons of different travel credit cards could give you the opportunity to fly with this unique and top-notch airline.
Aeroplan also lets you mix and match flights between partner airlines. This means you could combine a Gulf Air flight with flights from other Middle Eastern carriers like Emirates, Etihad, and Oman Air.

So here's the bottom line:
A lovely, underrated airline will begin flying to the U.S. sometime in the near future. This opens up yet another way to travel long distances around the world with only one stop in between (and at an incredible airport, no less).
The fact that Gulf Air flights are so easily accessible with points and miles makes the proposition even more exciting.
